Truth is that I am not a writer, I am more of a talker than a writer. I can talk for hours but write for five minutes? That's not me. On the other hand I have a brother who is a genius with his pen and paper. My brother has been writing since he was about six years old and boy can he write! Having said this am sure you will understand why I opened a blog a century ago and I hardly write on the blog. Truth be told am the last person that should be around a blog.
Anyway since am not really expecting anyone to read this then its all good.
Growing up I was a very skinny lanky girl. I was tall and totally skinny. In fact I was called panla which means dry fish Lol that is how skinny I was. Well I wasn't coping well in boarding school coupled with the fact that federal government colleges had started the 6-3-3-4 system, but by then public schools were still on 6-5-4 hence my parents felt bringing me back home will save me one academic year and a step ahead of my colleagues.
(If only we knew that man proposes and God deposes Lol)
As I grew older in form three I started putting up weight and when people referred to it I found it very funny cos in my young mind I could not understand what more people wanted, I mean when I was skinny they complained now I was putting on weight and they are still talking abeg they should get off my back.
The more my parents and my brother talked the more depressed I got and the more solace I found in junk food and fizzy drinks. By the time I was eighteen I looked twenty five. Older than my classmates and definitely not fashionable.
I couldn't wear mini skirts like my friends or leggings or body hugs. At this point I was deeply in depression and my only comfort was in anything sweet. Each time I see the pain in my parents eyes and the huge disappointment in my brothers eyes it was like being the family's disabled child.
Gradually I developed thick skin, ignored the look of pain and disapproval from my family, and decided since I can't do anything about weight I might as well make them proud in other ways. So I opted for pure science subjects even when I knew I was more arts inclined but then I needed the approval so I pushed myself more. I kept pushing more for approval. Because of that need for approval I developed a sharp tongue. Needless to say it gave birth to my comedy career and I didn't even realise at that time.
To be continued...
